Modern Periodic Table

Morden Periodic table image

Elements are classified on the basis of similarity in their properties

Dobrener classified the elements into a trinity while Newland gave the octet rule.

Mendeleev arranged the elements according to the ascending order and chemical properties of their atomic force.

Mendeleev also predicted the existence of elements still to be discovered in his periodic table, based on space.

‌The inconsistency in arranging the elements based on the ascending order of the atomic force was eliminated by arranging the atomic number in ascending order

‌This basic property of the element was discovered by Moseley.

‌In a modern periodic table the elements are arranged in 18 vertical columns called sets and 7 horizontal rows called periodic.

Elements arranged in this way exhibit atomic size, valence, or frequency of properties such as metallic and non-metallic properties.
