Major Psychological Disorders:


The international classification of mental illnesses is outlined in the DSM.  Mental illness in DSM is classified based on its symptoms.  Here we will study major psychotic disorders such as anxiety disorders, mood disorders, learning disorders.

1. Anxiety Psychosis Occasionally experiencing anxiety is a common occurrence in our lives.  We usually experience anxiety when we are having difficulty completing any of our tasks, exam time is approaching, important decisions are to be made in life, etc.  From this it can be said that anxiety is a normal mental experience.  Anxiety occurs when the level of anxiety exceeds the normal level.  A person suffering from anxiety disorder cannot remove anxiety from himself.  This extreme anxiety has a detrimental effect on her day-to-day activities such as professional-family duties, school activities and interpersonal relationships.

We will get detailed information about the three main psychosis from anxiety psychosis.

(i) Generalized Disturbed Anxiety

(ii) Distorted Fear

(iii) Compulsive Thought Pressure - Compulsive Verb 


(1) General Anxiety Disorder:

Generalized Disturbed Anxiety is known as GAD.  This is also known as free-floating anxiety.  The person himself is unaware of the reasons responsible for the emergence of anxiety.  About 3.8 percent of the U.S. population has this disorder, which affects about 6.8 million young people.  This is even higher in India.  

The prevalence of this disorder is higher in women as compared to men.  


Common symptoms of generalized anxiety in DSM-V are as follows: 

1. Presence of extreme anxiety about any subject, event or activity for 6 consecutive months.

2. The person has no control over their own anxiety.

3. Presence of any three of the following physical or cognitive symptoms.

• Getting tired quickly.

• Difficulty concentrating 

• Physical discomfort.  

• Extreme sensitivity 

• Nervous system tension Sleep disturbances


Most people have symptoms such as excessive sweating, nausea, diarrhea, body trembling, difficulty breathing, increased heart rate, frequent colds, and fainting.  Mental symptoms of GAD include poor concentration, restlessness of mind, lack of control over thoughts, stuttering or stuttering, fear of death, etc.  The uncontrolled anxiety experienced by a person hinders the activity of his daily activities as well as the person is not able to fulfill his responsibilities properly.  As a result, it is difficult for a person to maintain his family and professional relationships as well as to complete tasks on time.
